Prototype is a game about a guy, Alex, who
basically wonders though
Manhatten trying to break an infection.
Wiki if you want the plot read the wiki. There were many
negatives and positives about this game and me being the
brutaluser i am going to brutal rip it to shreds and
analyse it!
Aesthetics: Since the world today seems to want a game to be pretty over even if it means sacrificing
gameplay i'll start with this. Prototype is no exception to this, yes everything is pretty, the buildings and terrain are detailed ad so are the
npc and the motion sequences involving the main
character. One problem several times i would activate a power the camera and show a sequence of him
transforming which is fine, but it happened way to often! While he was having his little orgasm a hunter would be lurking behind me only to smack the shit out of me when Alex finished. Most if not all of the motion sequences where highly detailed which was nice. The broad range of world fit well
aesthetically as well as being "pretty."
Gameplay:
Howed it handle? Most of the controls were
pretty self
explanatory. You know press button attack, move stick move. Some of the move complex moves
didn't handle well at all! The
devastator attack for example consisted of pressing two buttons
simultaneously. Many times this ended up with my
characters executing a special attack instead only to get beat to shit by a hunter! The mechanic of wall walking performed better than my
expectations. It was very easy to fallow except when Alex when be doing back flips due to an
overhanging ledge or wall. This brings me to the camera, Oh my god the camera failed on this game. many times would it be stuck in a wall or locking the wrong way , this goes hand in hand with the
targeting system. This is worse than the camera CONSTANTLY it aims and the wrong thing. Some where along the lines of "Hey look a a
threatening leaf!!!" when
im in the middle of a climatic boss fight. Most his powers perform as you would expect them to.
Theres basically only two the claws and the giant snake. They the only ones i used.
Speaking of his powers i disliked how you could only have one power in the
dpad at time,
requiring you to switch powers mid fight. the actual combat
preformed nicely very
intuitive. One of the main parts that frustrated me the most was a few mission where the game takes your powers and expects you to preform the exact same!!
AI and difficulty: I played though on normal. The AI was interesting on the whole. No idiots or anything of the sort. The
difficulty curve is horrible the game will go from cake to Oh My God *trows controller at TV.*
Actual Fun: Was it fun? Yes i found it
quiet enjoyable the
ability take the presence of a
solider then turn around and blame the commander and watch him get killed
execution style was quite
amusing.
Minus some of the boss fight which seemed
unnecessarily difficult. The game in my opinion was way to dark, there were very little moments of humor or comic
relif. But hey its not a movie.
Other notes: on the whole it was enjoyable. The lack of much of soundtrack was mildly
disappointing. The enemies were creative but lacked in
variety. There
wasn't much of plot and it
wasn't very
creative either, much less have a whole
attack based
around it.
